About Celebrate Cultures
Celebrate Cultures is an invitation to embrace Hispanic cultures and to inspire creativity through hands-on projects and bilingual content.
- Appreciation of other cultures as a celebration of the wonderful diversity of our world and its people, animals, plants, and minerals.
- Hands-on learning approach with the use of high-quality materials
- Bilingual contents that facilitate a natural exposure to foreign languages, "acquiring" a language vs "learning" it, through large amounts of comprehensible language input, as renowned linguists Dr. Stephen Krashen and Dr. Tracy Terrell and authors of "The natural approach" method.
About Marta
Celebrate Cultures was created by Marta, a native Spanish speaker, mom of Bernat (13) and Tania (10), keen traveler, and a Language, Art, and History lover.
Hello! My name is Marta Mascaró, and I am a wife to my Belgian husband, and a mother to our two children, both of them born in Barcelona, Spain, where I was born and raised too. Learning foreign languages has always been a passion for me, I love getting to communicate in multiple forms, meeting new people with different ways of thinking and doing, and discovering the richness and diversity of the world.
From early on I enjoyed traveling abroad and speaking foreign languages helped me explore the world and get exciting job opportunities, from summer jobs as a travel guide in the Austrian Alps, to being an intern in the United Nations in Switzerland, or by working and traveling to multiple places all over the world, from the business district of La Defense in Paris to an island in The Philippines, or to the Argentinian Pampa, to name a few.
The richness of experiences and relationships that I forged in contact with this diversity of cultures was so strong, that ever since our children were born I tried to instill in them the respect towards other cultures, and the appreciation to learn other languages… and an opportunity came when my husband -also an avid traveler- was asked to relocate from Spain to the US with his job. It wasn’t an easy decision but we didn’t hesitate and have been living in California since 2014.
As our children were growing, I familiarized myself with Waldorf pedagogy and realized how powerful art and storytelling were in the learning process. I started developing projects that became fun, bonding memories for the whole family and that helped instill an appreciation for other cultures, and Celebrate Cultures came as a natural evolution of these projects that included different kinds of Arts with Stories, and exposure to other cultures, particularly to Spanish and Spanish heritage.
I sincerely hope that Celebrate Cultures brings hours of joy, creativity, and connection to you and your family, and inspires interest and appreciation towards Spanish-speaking cultures.
